More than 90 videos appearing to show early GTA 6 gameplay leak online

We caught an unexpected first glimpse of GTA 6 gameplay.

GTA 6 is still at least a few years away and details about the game are scarce, but this weekend fans caught what could be an unexpected first glimpse of  early clips from the game in development.

A user on GTAForums with the nickname ‘teapotuberhacker’ posted on Sunday morning more than 90 videos they claim to be early GTA 6 test clips. While the original forum thread was deleted swiftly, the leaked footage is still circulating online.

GTA 6 developer Take-Two Interactive has reportedly started issuing DMCA takedown notices against the videos, which might be confirming the leak’s authenticity (though that remains unconfirmed). After the footage went viral, the leaker posted again saying they’re looking to “negotiate a deal” with publisher Rockstar Games and claiming they have the source code for the game.

As reported by Axios Gaming, most of the files from the leak are not dated, but some of the footage seems to be from very early and unfinished builds of the game made in 2021.

Even at this early stage, the leaked footage looks promising. In line with previous GTA 6 leaks, the new clips show two playable characters, a man and a woman, who you can switch between in what seems to be a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired bandit story.

Most clips show what appear to be early animation tests with characters taking cover, holding up stores, crashing cars, and more. They present the game in a very early and rough state, but already show the developers’ attention to detail.  One video shows a meticulously recreated car’s interior, complete with pedals, dials, and the tiniest details, presumably demoing the game’s first-person viewpoint.

The action appears to take place in Miami, potentially confirming earlier reports that GTA 6 will be set in the series’ Miami-inspired Vice City.

Reactions to the footage have been mostly negative but most fans seem to have failed to consider that the leaked videos are very early test clips and do not represent a finished game’s graphics.

The leak surfaced on the ninth anniversary of GTA 5, which was released back on Sept. 17, 2013. It’s a shame that our first look at the upcoming GTA game might be a leak before a proper official reveal, as Rockstar Games are known for their amazing cinematic trailers.

Be careful not to share the leaked clips via your personal accounts, since they could have been obtained illegally.

We don’t have a release date for GTA 6 yet, but judging from the leaked clips, it’s at least a couple of years away.
