Colorado has faced off against Minnesota four times in its history, with wins in the first three matchups. But, the Golden Gophers made a statement in last year’s game. Colorado came into the contest at 1-1 after dominating Northern Colorado and falling just short in its upset attempt against Texas A&M at Mile High Stadium.
The Buffs were feeling good about themselves as they entered Week 3, even coming into the game as the favorite. All of that was stopped in a matter of a few hours as Minnesota routed the Buffaloes 30-0. It was a defensive struggle early as both teams failed to score in the first quarter, but Colorado’s offense was non-existent, totaling only 63 yards for the entire game.
Minnesota wore down the Buffs’ defense as they scored two second-quarter touchdowns on the ground and two more in the second half. All told, Minnesota ran for 277 yards and Colorado was in the negative at -19 yards rushing.
One can’t help but notice the trend that was started in this game carrying into the early part of 2022 so far. Colorado will need to make major adjustments to not suffer a repeat at the hands of Minnesota this season.
