Giants’ Saquon Barkley named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 194-yard performance against the Titans in Week 1.

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

That should come as little surprise to anyone who watched Barkley on Sunday.

From the NFL:

Barkley rushed for 164 yards with one touchdown and added six receptions for 30 yards and converted the go-ahead two-point conversion with 1:09 remaining in the Giants’ 21-20 comeback victory over the Titans. His 164 rushing yards and 194 scrimmage yards both led the league for Week 1.

This is the third-career Offensive Player of the Week award for Barkley, second-most by a Giants running back (Tiki Barber, seven):

2018: Week 11
2019: Week 16
2022: Week 1

He joins quarterback Kerry Collins (five) and running backs Larry Johnson (four) and Gary Brown (three) as offensive players from Penn State to win the award at least three times.

Barkley has been crowing all spring and summer about how he is back to his 2018 form and he looked it on Sunday. The talk and speculation has subsided and his play is now doing the talking.

Barkley is in the final season of his rookie contract and is seeking to further his NFL career (with the Giants, if possible) and he is off to a roaring start.

The big play ability that is Barkley’s signature appeared once again in the form of a 68-yard run last week against the Titans.
