Tony Jefferson turned down other teams to join Giants, Wink Martindale

Tony Jefferson says he turned down multiple teams in order to sign with the New York Giants and reunite with Wink Martindale.

The New York Giants officially signed veteran safety Tony Jefferson to their practice squad on Thursday, but he’s not expected to remain there long.

Whether he’s signed to the active roster or promoted on gameday, Jefferson appears poised to take on a notable role in Wink Martindale’s defense. And that’s precisely why he joined the Giants.

Jefferson revealed that not only did the Baltimore Ravens want him back, but several other teams had come calling, too.

There was a brief moment Jefferson also considered retirement. He missed the 2020 season after suffering a serious knee injury that required as many as four surgeries, but is now feeling healthy.

“I’m all in, man. It’s the Big Apple. See the skyline from the field. I think I’m ready to play the best ball of my career,” Jefferson said, via Art Stapleton.

That’s music to Martindale’s ears. So much so that it warranted a rare smile.
