The safety position may be in line to take another big hit this week. As first reported by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye was arrested Thursday morning on accusations of aggravated assault with a firearm. The free agent addition already has another court case outstanding as well.

Maye was arrested in Feb. 2021 and charged with a DUI and property damage. His court case for those charges has been delayed until November. The potential here with additional charges could be catastrophic for the Saints’ back end on defense. This news comes just two days after nickel safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

It’s a wait-and-see game from here. But if New Orleans must be without Maye for any time in 2022, they have the depth to make up for it. Especially with the recent addition of Justin Evans who, if he stays healthy, could be in line for a lot of playing time.
