Ex-Giants QB Geno Smith selected to WVU Hall of Fame Class of 2022

Former New York Giants QB Geno Smith has been selected to the West Virginia University Hall of Fame Class of 2022.

Former New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith is headed to the Hall of Fame. The West Virginia University of Sports Hall of Fame, that is.

WVU announced their Hall of Fame Class of 2022 over the weekend and Smith was joined by Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin.

Smith was originally selected by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. He spent four seasons with Gang Green before signing on with the Giants to back up Eli Manning.

That 2017 season, of course, turned out to be quite significant for the Giants, Manning and Smith. Then-head coach Ben McAdoo famously benched Manning in favor of Smith, officially bringing to an end Manning’s legendary 210-game iron man streak.

Smith became the first Black quarterback to start for the Giants in their history and the first to start for both the Giants and the Jets. However, his run ended after just one week as he was sent back to the bench.

In 2018, Smith joined the Los Angeles Chargers before signing on with the Seattle Seahawks in 2019. He is expected to start for Seattle this season after Russell Wilson was dealt to the Denver Broncos.
