It’s no secret that Texas has found momentum on the recruiting trail recently.
Shortly after landing five-star quarterback Arch Manning, the Longhorns have been full speed head. Highly rated prospects are suddenly flocking to Austin and Steve Sarkisian’s staff doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
One recent commit that fans are excited to see wear the burnt orange is four-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II. The speedster is widely viewed as one of the top pass catchers in the country, and he’s proving that this summer.
On3’s Sam Spiegelman recently gave out summer superlatives to members of the 2023 recruiting class. The player with the highest floor, most polished passer, highest upside, best deep threat and many more superlatives were included.
Texas had one commit and a few uncommitted targets appear on the list. Here’s what Spiegelman had to say about choosing Texas commit Johntay Cook II as the best route-runner this summer.
Johntay Cook II has been a standout performer from event to event ranging from OT7 to the Future 50, and in the process has established himself as one of, if not, the best route-runners in the country. The Texas commitment out of DeSoto (Texas) is effortless in and out of his breaks and instantly accelerates to gain separation. Cook’s going to be a fun piece for Steve Sarkisian to work with.
Javien Toviano was named the highest-upside defensive back and his recruitment has seemingly come down to a Texas A&M vs. Texas battle. Offensive line target Zalance Heard was named the enforcer at offensive tackle.
