Much of the attention of Boston Celtics fans intrepid enough to tune into their favorite club’s Saturday afternoon tilt with the Miami Heat in Las Vegas Summer League action were mainly there to get some idea of how the Celtics’ No. 53 pick of the 2022 NBA draft (JD Davison) looked playing against a higher level of competition in the annual Sin City friendly series.
But big man Mfiondu Kabengele nearly stole the show, putting up an impressive 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal in just 24 minutes of game time, and hit 5-of-7 from the field, including 1-of-2 from beyond the arc. The 4 turnovers were a bit high, as were the 5 personal fouls, but the rudiments of an effective modern NBA big man were clearly visible — if in need of polish.
If you want a look at Kabegele’s play Saturday for yourself, or just want to see it again, check out the clip embedded below put together by YouTuber Tomasz Kordylewski.
