Tony Vitello discusses pitching plan for Sunday’s series finale against Notre Dame

Tony Vitello discusses Tennessee’s pitching plan for Sunday’s series finale against Notre Dame.

No. 1 Tennessee (57-8) defeated Notre Dame (39-16), 12-4, Saturday in game No. 2 of the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Tennessee-Notre Dame best-of-three series is tied, 1-1.

Following Saturday’s game, Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello discussed the Vols’ pitching plan for Sunday’s game No. 3.

“I’m not sure what they’re going to do, but I think they would answer the same way,” Vitello said. “Both teams are fortunate to have options. A lot of times you get to this situation, and maybe you don’t feel that way. Maybe you got a guy to start the game, but you know, you’re low on options. I think we’re both fortunate, and I think probably every team in the country to get to this point, you have options.

“I don’t need to speak for Notre Dame, but for us, it’s kind of all hands on deck. We have to do whatever we have to do. That’s what we’ll do for us, and we’ll figure out who will have the first inning, but again, all hands on deck and do whatever we think is best.”
