Four-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II has been a priority target for Texas for quite some time.
The DeSoto native is rated the No. 6 wide receiver in the country for the 2023 recruiting class, according to On3. He’s visited Austin a handful of times for unofficial visits over the last year.
Texas and Texas A&M have seemingly been battling each other in Cook’s recruitment over the last few months, with Ole Miss, Oregon, Alabama and Michigan attempting to work their way in.
However, On3’s Gerry Hamilton entered a new prediction in favor of Texas to land Cook on Monday with a confidence rating of 85%. The only other prediction entered for Cook was by Sam Spiegelman in April, which also favored the Longhorns.

In 2021, Cook hauled in 38 receptions for 806 yards and 19 touchdowns. The speedster would be a great fit for Steve Sarkisian’s offense.
