More footage of Sonic Frontiers came out on Friday, highlighting some less-than-stellar combat scenarios.
IGN got to show off how the blue blur will deal with bad guys in Sonic Frontiers, and it’s looking pretty rough. In the footage, Sonic saunters up to lifeless robots before slowly throwing kicks and punches. Riveting stuff. Then, he starts zipping around doing some sort of super moves as the camera barely keeps off. Perspectives shift around at an uncomfortable pace, and there’s not much cohesion. I can only speak for myself, but it’s not great.
Watch the combat demo from Sonic Frontiers for yourself below. Maybe I’m being overly pessimistic, but most fans aren’t loving what’s on display either.

It’s too bad because the initial teaser clip from Sonic Frontiers had so much promise. The overworld demonstration was solid, at least from a technical perspective, even if interaction and traversal appear somewhat flavorless. Hopefully, it’ll improve with more development time.
Sonic Frontiers is due out later this year for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. No firm release date as of yet, though. Might be worth delaying this one given the current reception.
