Report: Opposing teams believe Nets could be open to Kyrie Irving trade

The Brooklyn Nets relationship with Kyrie Irving hasn’t exactly been kosher, but now NBA teams believe that the Nets are open to a trade.

The Brooklyn Nets will be looking to reequip their team to make a championship push this offseason, while Kyrie Irving was a huge part of that original plan there are now rumors that the Nets would consider shipping him out via sign-and-trade.

General Manager Sean Marks has openly expressed frustrations about Irving, citing that the organization, “want[s] to avoid the drama, [and] want[s] to avoid the distractions.”

Brooklyn has already shown hesitancy when it comes to Irving’s extension and according to Ian Begley of SNY TV, other NBA organizations believe that the team is open to hearing offers for a sign-and-trade deal.

Per Begley:

But if Irving opts out of his $37.5 million option for next season, the contract negotiations between Irving and the Nets will be interesting.

The New York Daily News reported on Wednesday that the Nets were unwilling to offer Irving a long-term contract. SNY has not independently confirmed that report. But if Irving opts out and the Nets have trouble finding common ground with the seven-time All-Star, opposing teams believe the club will be open to exploring trades of Irving.

There’s still time for the Nets front office and Irving to come to terms on a new contract.

The club has made it clear that its priority is to add a high-caliber player to the roster. Utilizing Irving’s contract to trade for another star could help bolster the roster.

The Brooklyn Nets are in for a long summer, so strap in Nets fans.
