[autotag]Quinnen Williams[/autotag] has been the lone bright spot on a struggling New York Jets‘ roster over the past three years. Today, the Jets rewarded Williams and picked up his fifth-year option for the 2023 season and he will return to New York for two more years at least. Williams will receive $11.5M in 2023 which is all fully-guaranteed.
Despite being in Tuscaloosa for just three seasons, one of which included a redshirt, Williams only saw significant playing time as a junior. He clearly made the most of it amassing 71 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and ten sacks. Williams was first-team All-SEC, first-team All-American, and received the Outland trophy as the nation’s best interior lineman. Williams declared for the draft after the 2018 season.
The Jets selected Williams with the third overall selection in the 2019 draft, and GM Joe Douglas has made it clear that keeping Williams in the building was a top priority.
This should come as no surprise as Douglas stated on March 2nd, at the NFL combine that this would be done sooner rather than later.
Through three seasons, Williams has started 37 of 41 possible games accumulating 136 tackles, 15.5 sacks, and batted seven passes down.
The #Jets officially picked up the fifth-year option on DT Quinnen Williams. That's $11.5M fully-guaranteed for 2023. GM Joe Douglas said this would happen at the Combine.
