Monty Williams fined for ripping officials

Was this really fine worthy?

Phoenix Suns head coach [autotag]Monty Williams[/autotag] spoke his mind after his team’s 118-103 loss to the Pelicans in game four of the postseason series on Sunday as he was none too pleased about the amount of free throws New Orleans received.

“42 to 15 in free throws.  Slice it any way you like to, in a playoff game that’s physical, that’s amazing,” Williams said. “Coaches shouldn’t have to come up to the microphone and feel like they’re going to get their head cut off for speaking the truth. It’s not like we didn’t attack the basket. That’s really hard to do. They outplayed us and they deserved to win, but that’s a free throw disparity.”

On Tuesday, Williams was hit with a fine for those comments.

Williams, a former Notre Dame standout and first round pick of the Knicks, has coached the Suns since 2019.  Game five of the best-of-seven series that’s now tied at two takes place Tuesday night in the desert.
