Texas receives new crystal ball prediction for 2023 EDGE Billy Walton

The South Oak Cliff star recorded 12 sacks and 21 tackles for loss as a junior last season.

The Longhorns continue to emerge as the favorite to land three-star EDGE Billy Walton.

On April 5, Horns247 insider Mike Roach entered a crystal ball prediction for Walton in favor of Texas with a medium confidence level. On April 18, the Texas insider for Rivals, Nick Harris, submitted a similar crystal ball prediction.

Walton is rated the No. 56 overall prospect in Texas and the No. 31 EDGE in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. The South Oak Cliff star recorded 55 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and two pass breakups as a junior in 2021.

247Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks raved about Walton’s potential at the next level in his scouting report.

Plays consistently hard. Shows chase-down athleticism and good linear pursuit speed. Closes with conviction and can deliver big hits. Makes effort plays vs. the run and as a rusher.

Productive junior year for loaded Texas 5A D-II state championship team. Flashes some dip-and-bend ability when running the arc. Aware in short zone when asked to drop.

Intriguing prospect who could possibly fit multiple roles in varying schemes. Play style and physical specs suggest highest potential as a two-point edge player who plays uncovered with ability to freelance at times. Projects to the P5 level with the potential to become a difference maker as a multi-year starter.

Texas officially extended an offer to Walton on Jan. 20, 2022.
