Guardians rookie sensation Steven Kwan took an actual base with him on the team flight

Amazing.

Sample size obviously matters a ton in baseball when it comes to evaluating performance, but even with that in mind, it’s impossible to overlook the start that Guardians rookie Steven Kwan is having to his big-league career.

The former fifth-round pick out of Oregon State is fresh off his first MLB series, and all he did was go 9 for 13 with three RBI and five walks. He blew Monday’s game open with a bases-loaded triple. He went 5 for 5 on Sunday. He spent so much time on base in Kansas City — a ridiculous .789 on base percentage — that he figured he might as well take a base with him on the team’s flight to Cincinnati to play the Reds.

The Guardians Twitter account shared a photo of an actual base buckled in on the team flight. The best part had to be that it still had the Kansas City Royals’ logo on it. Like, is the grounds crew at Kauffman Stadium going to be wondering what happened to second base?

Let’s hope not. But after a weekend like that, Kwan deserved his new travel buddy. After all, no other player had reached base 15 times in his first four career games.

MLB fans also thought the tweet was great.
