Lady Vols power past Mississippi State

Tennessee softball powers past Mississippi State.

No. 11 Tennessee powered past Mississippi State, 9-1, in five innings Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The Lady Vols (24-9, 6-3 SEC) scored first when right fielder Rylie West hit a two-run inside-the-park home run in the second inning.

Tennessee hit three home runs in the game for Tennessee.

The Lady Vols scored six times in the fourth inning before freshman Lair Beautae had a walk-off single in the sixth against the Bulldogs (23-11, 4-3 SEC).

Ivy Davis and Kelcy Leach each homered in the fifth inning. McKenna Gibson added an RBI double. West and Beautae recorded RBI singles in the fifth inning.

Kiki Milloy had an RBI triple in the fifth inning before Beautae ended the game early.

Mississippi State scored its run in the fifth inning when Matalasi Faapito hit a home run.

West went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs for the Lady Vols, while Kiki Milloy was 2-for-3 with a double, one triple, two runs and one RBI.

Pitcher Ashley Rogers (4-3) started for the Lady Vols. She pitched four innings and gave up two hits and two walks.

Rogers recorded six strikeouts before giving way to Nicola Simpson, who yielded one run and one hit.
