Where does Oregon go now when it comes to recruiting a QB in the 2023 class?

With the expected news that Nico Iamaleava Jr. has committed to Tennessee, Oregon’s efforts will likely ramp up on recruiting a new 5-star QB to Eugene.

On Monday morning, the unfortunate but expected news that 5-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava Jr. was committing to the Tennessee Volunteers came out, confirming what many believed was a foregone conclusion at this point.

Iamaleava, who is the No. 4 QB in the 2023 class and No. 7 player overall, listed the Oregon Ducks in his top-5 a week ago, and was projected by many to be heading to Eugene after a wildly successful visit to the facilities earlier in the year. However, a late visit to Knoxville flipped many of the predictions, and rumors about a potential $8 million NIL deal with Tennessee are expected to be the culprit.

So with Iamaleava now off the board, where do the Ducks turn? What does Oregon do?

Looking at the remaining QB class, they’re likely going to be just fine, and it’s because they are expected to be in the running for 5-star QB Jaden Rashada, who they’ve made a strong push for over the past couple of weeks.

Rashada is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound QB from Pittsburgh, CA, who is rated as the No. 5 QB in the nation, and No. 31 player overall. He has visited Oregon and was said to love the facilities and coaching staff, On top of that, it’s become clear recently that the Ducks — and more specifically offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham — really want him on their team.

With all quarterback recruits, it is important to try and get them to commit early on in the process so they can help build out the rest of the class by helping draw other players to your school. We just recently saw this with Iamaleava, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Rashada move quickly in the next few weeks and months as well.

In the recruiting game, the top-rated QBs can have a domino effect on each other. The first domino just fell. Now it’s time to see if the next one falls in the direction of the Ducks.
