Lady Vols sweep Missouri in SEC opening series

The Lady Vols sweep Missouri in its SEC opening softball series.

No. 18 Tennessee (18-6, 2-0 SEC) notched a 5-4 victory to sweep No. 14 Missouri (16-6, 0-2 SEC) Sunday in Columbia.

The SEC opening series was shortened to two games due to snow.

The Lady Vols opened a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Amanda Ayala scored when Zaida Puni reached on an error.

Madison Webber hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to give Tennessee a 3-0 lead.

Puni and Ivy Davis also hit solo home runs for Tennessee.

Missouri scored three runs in the fifth inning and tallied once in the sixth.

Erin Edmoundson threw three innings of scoreless relief for Tennessee for her 11th win of the season. She surrendered one hit and two walks, while striking out four.

Bailey McCachren started and pitched 3.1 innings. She yielded three runs and five hits, while striking out two.

Nicola Simpson pitched 0.2 innings, surrendering one unearned run and two hits, while striking out one.
