Russell Wilson spent 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He won a Super Bowl. He made nine Pro Bowls and should be remembered as the best player in the franchise’s history.
So, with all that in mind, you’d expect the Seahawks’ official social media pages to have a tribute video or a statement ready for Wilson’s trade to the Broncos. The Seahawks took a different approach before they were allowed to speak about the trade, and it didn’t go over well at all.
Shortly after reports of the trade hit social media, the Seahawks’ Twitter account posted a video clip from Cast Away, showing Tom Hanks’ character shouting “Wilson,” as the volleyball drifted out to sea.

While there was a limit to what the Seahawks could say — per NFL rules — before the trade became official, there was definitely a better approach out there than trolling your own fanbase with a meme. After all, the Seahawks just traded their franchise player — not exactly the time to joke about it.
No wonder fans crushed the Seahawks for the ill-advised tweet.
