No. 11 Tennessee kept its perfect record intact with a 4-1 victory over East Tennessee State Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Volunteers (7-0) scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Trey Lipscomb hit a two-run home run against the Buccaneers (5-2).
East Tennessee State starting pitcher Landon Smiddy (0-2) surrendered the game’s first two runs.
The Buccaneers pulled to within 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning when Garett Wallace’s RBI double plated David Beam.
Tennessee extended its advantage to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jared Dickey drew a bases loaded walk.
The Vols closed its scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI double by Drew Gilbert.
Tennessee’s Camden Sewell pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win, his second of the season. He surrendered three hits and struck out seven batters.
Redmond Walsh pitched one inning and had one strikeout en route to recording his first save during the season.
Zander Sechrist started for the Vols and recorded six strikeouts. He pitched 4.2 innings and surrendered one earned run, two hits and one walk.
