Nate Oats’ No. 24 Alabama (19-10, 9-7 Southeastern Conference) basketball squad played perhaps its best game overall tonight against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday evening.
The Crimson Tide defeated South Carolina for the seventh consecutive time, by a final score of 90-71. The Tide jumped out to a 50-27 lead at the half to give the Gamecocks a nearly insurmountable deficit.
Jaden Shackelford got into his rhythm from behind the three-point line in the second half and scored 21 points to lead all Alabama scorers. Jahvon Quinerly followed close behind with 20 points. Both Shackelford and Quinerly each knocked down four three-pointers.
Keon Ellis added 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Alabama. Charles Bediako scored 11 points, and JD Davison added 10.
Alabama started walk-ons Tyler Barnes and Britton Johnson for Senior Night, though the team has one more home game. Neither scored during that stretch but they left with the Tide up 12-5 thanks to a 3-point barrage.
Next up for the Crimson Tide is the final home game of the season against Texas A&M prior to the final game of the regular season against the LSU Tigers.
