Woj: Boston Celtics trading Bol Bol, PJ Dozier to Orlando Magic in ‘cost-savings’ deal

The Celtics should now be under the tax and possess two open roster spots to play with.

The Boston Celtics are officially under the tax line after reportedly sending out recently-acquired PJ Dozier and Bol Bol to the Orlando Magic for a future second-round pick according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Both traded to Boston from the Denver Nuggets in the three-team deal that sent forward Juancho Hernangomez to the San Antonio Spurs in mid-January, the move is a salary cap-clearing trade that will also open up two roster spots the Celtics can use to take on players or sign veterans to the roster for a late-season playoff push backed by Boston’s improved play of late.

Boston now has flexibility should they wish to make additional moves before the 3 pm ET deadline arrives, and has removed leverage in any potential talks for trading Dennis Schroder of teams who would have known that Boston hoped to skirt the tax this season.
