The Texas running back room is loaded for years to come, but they may have a chance to add to the already ridiculously deep group.
Five-star running back Rueben Owens, who was once a Texas commit in the 2023 class, recently shared his thought’s with Inside Texas about the Longhorns.
Owens explained that Texas has been in constant contact with him, and he feels as if he has a good chance to be the alpha on the team when or if he were to become a Longhorn.

Owens has been a star at the high school level, and currently ranks as the No. 26 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings. It is no secret why he is viewed as one of the nation’s top talents. In three seasons thus far for El Campo High School, he has rushed for 5,000 yards and 76 touchdowns, with 46 of them coming in 2021.
While the Longhorns running back room is loaded, it is also on the older side. Bijan Robinson is likely NFL bound after this season, and their No. 2 option Roschon Johnson will be a senior next season as well and it is unknown if he will use his COVID-19 year of eligibility for 2023.
It’s a good bet that Texas remains one of the favorites for Owens, and he would certainly compete for immediate playing time if or when he arrives to campus.
