Earlier this afternoon it was announced that the Miami Dolphins had finally found the next man to lead its football team in 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. This means former Alabama star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be working with one of the best offensive minds in the NFL.
McDaniel has held a coaching position since 2005 where he was an intern for the Denver Broncos. McDaniel would go on to work with several other NFL franchises throughout his career but only has one season under his belt calling plays.
McDaniel is most notably known for his incredibly innovative use of 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samual during the 2021 season. Samual earned first-team All-Pro selection.
So how will this impact current Tagovailoa? Well, I am glad you asked. The young quarterback has endured a considerable amount of unwarranted criticism during his first couple of seasons in the NFL. But if we are being honest, Tua has simply not had the coaching staff or the supporting cast around him to achieve anything of significance.
With the hire of McDaniel, I believe you will see an offense that is tailor-made for the gunslinger from Hawaii. McDaniel is innovative and smart and will put Tua in a great position to succeed.
Now the Dolphins still have plenty of holes to fill on offense, especially up front along the offensive line. But the hire of McDaniel is certainly a good start to rebuilding the franchise.
