Pokémon Legends: Arceus online features – trading and battling

Pokémon Legends: Arceus has fewer online options than most previous Pokémon games, although there are still some features to make use of.

Like the vast majority of modern Pokémon games, Pokémon Legends: Arceus features an online component designed to connect you with other players around the world. As with everything else in Legends Arceus though, it’s remarkably different from how it appeared in previous games.

Before we get into how Legends: Arceus‘ online features work, it’s important to clearly state that Pokémon Legends: Arceus does not have online battles. We’ve seen plenty of people asking for clarity on this, so we thought it was worth pointing out before we get into the elements of online Pokémon that did make it into the series’ latest installment.

Here’s everything you need to know about Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ online component, including details pertaining to trading and the all-new Lost and Found system.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus online features – How does trading work?

The trading post in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Like most Pokémon games, Pokémon Legends: Arceus allows you to trade Pokémon with other players. The only catch here is that you can’t just queue up with random people — in Legends: Arceus, the only people you’ll be able to trade with are your friends.

Basically, you can choose to either trade with someone locally — meaning someone who is literally next to you — or trade with someone far away. While the latter option allows you to trade with people from other countries, you both need to input the same eight-digit code in order to connect. As a result, you’ll need to arrange this with your prospective trading partner before instigating the trade.

You also need to start the trade by speaking to Simona at the trading post, which is clearly displayed in the screenshot a couple of paragraphs up. If you can’t find it, it’s in between the Galaxy Team HQ and the Training Grounds in Jubilife Village.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus online features – What is the Lost and Found system?

The Lost and Found system in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

While the new Lost and Found system doesn’t quite make up for the absence of battles in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it’s still pretty cool — it actually resembles a similar system from that game where Norman Reedus treks across America with an alien-detecting baby strapped to his chest.

Before you can use the Lost and Found system, you’ll need to go into the menu — the same one where you can view your items and save — and scroll to the section that allows you toggle online functionality on and off. Once this is turned on, you’ll be able to find satchels scattered across the Hisui region. These will be marked on your map with a bag symbol, and represent the lost items of players who were knocked unconscious in the spot they’re found at.

Once you pick a satchel up, it will automatically return whatever items a player lost to their inventory. In exchange for this good deed, you’ll receive Merit Points that can be used to purchase extremely rare items. To claim them, simply open the “Lost and Found” tab from the menu and select the satchel you just returned, at which point the MP you’re owed will automatically be added to your balance.
