The Jets will have a new center when they face the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Dan Feeney will be New York’s man in the middle in Week 17 after Connor McGovern suffered an MCL injury in Week 16. Feeney will likely man the center position in New York’s final game, as well.
“It’s going to be an adjustment for Feeney, the quarterback and the rest of the offensive line,” Robert Saleh said Friday, “but Feeney has been dying for this opportunity. It’s an opportunity I think he’s really excited about for the next couple weeks.”
This will be the Jets’ first time without McGovern this season. Feeney, meanwhile, has played sparingly, never taking more than six offensive snaps in a game before last week’s win against the Jaguars. With New York’s line banged up and dealing with COVID-19, Feeney played 100 percent of the offensive snaps while moving around the line to accommodate McGovern’s in-game injury.
Feeney played in all 1,175 of the Chargers’ offensive snaps last season.
