Earlier this week, the New York Giants announced that Sunday would be deemed “Fan Appreciation Day” at MetLife Stadium. As a part of the festivities, season ticket holders would be given one free medium Pepsi.
That’s right. Not a large, but a medium soda in a cup full of ice.
The tone-deaf giveaway was immediately panned by fans and media pundits alike. Some of the commentary was wicked and perhaps rightfully so.
Despite the heavy criticism, the Giants did not adjust their giveaway nor did they offer any public comment. And when fans arrived in East Rutherford to procure their free medium Pepsi on Sunday, they were greeted with an unexpected caveat.
As it turns out, the giveaway is not for all season ticket holders. Rather, the single soda can only be obtained by the season ticket account holder. That means no matter how many season tickets a person has purchased, they are entitled to just a single soda.
Family of seven? One soda. Family of four? One soda. A new couple on their first date? One soda.
Someone just told me that the free Pepsi at MetLife today is not one drink per ticket. It’s only for the person whose name is on the account

Someone needs to have a serious discussion with the Giants’ marketing team. And perhaps Pepsi’s marketing team, too.
Yikes. Just yikes.
