The Carolina Panthers have had a merry-go-round at quarterback.
Just last week, Cam Newton started but was replaced by backup PJ Walker at times. Both played.
On Monday, Carolina head coach Matt Rhule said that’s going to continue against the Bills (7-6).
Then things got even more complicated.
Carolina (5-8) went on to designate quarterback Sam Darnold to return from injured reserve this week.
Darnold was placed on the shelf following the Week 9. He was diagnosed with a fracture in his right shoulder.
According to Panthers Wire, Rhule teased the possibility of Darnold suiting up before season’s end.
However, he also said earlier this week that Darnold’s return is not expected to be soon.
“It’s obviously a possibility,” Rhule said. “We just have to wait and see. But all I’m saying now is just that he’s out right now. He’s not a factor.”
But technically if healthy and good to go, the Panthers have now paved the way to play Darnold if they so choose.
Carolina has 21 days to restore him to the active roster.
Darnold was 2-3 in his career against the Bills while he was the starting quarterback of the New York Jets.
