If the 2021 NFL season ended today, the Denver Broncos would miss the playoffs, but not by much.
In addition to the four division winners in the AFC, the conference will also have three Wild Card teams. Right now, those three teams are the Los Angeles Chargers (8-5), Indianapolis Colts (7-6) and Buffalo Bills (7-6).
The Broncos are also 7-6, but the Colts and Bills currently have tiebreakers over Denver, the Cleveland Browns (7-6) and Cincinnati Bengals (7-6). Here’s a look at the current playoff picture in the AFC:
1. New England Patriots (9-4, division winner)
2. Tennessee Titans (9-4, division winner)
3. Kansas City Chiefs (9-4, division winner)
4. Baltimore Ravens (8-5, division winner)
5. Los Angeles Chargers (8-5, Wild Card seed)
6. Indianapolis Colts (7-6, Wild Card seed)
7. Buffalo Bills (7-6, Wild Card seed)
8. Cleveland Browns (7-6, out of playoffs)
9. Cincinnati Bengals (7-6, out of playoffs)
10. Denver Broncos (7-6, out of playoffs)
Denver could greatly improve its chances of earning a Wild Card berth by beating the Bengals in Week 15. The Broncos also have an upcoming road game against the Chargers in Week 17 that will likely have playoff implications.
With five weeks remaining, Denver has a lot of work to do, but it’s a promising sign that the playoffs are within reach for the Broncos.
