Mark Ingram sidelined with Cameron Jordan on COVID-19 reserve after positive test result

The hits just keep coming for the New Orleans Saints. Running back Mark Ingram has been designated to the NFL’s COVID-19 reserve list following a positive test result, as first reported by the Times-Picayune | Advocate’s Jeff Duncan. Ingram is the second Saints player to be sidelined on COVID-19 reserve this week along with defensive end Cameron Jordan.

It follows last week’s game with the Dallas Cowboys, who experienced a number of COVID-adjacent issues going into the matchup. Head coach Mike McCarthy and multiple assistants were unavailable after testing positive, as were a couple of players. Star receiver Amari Cooper was activated just days before kickoff after an extended stint away from the team while dealing with an infection.

While the Saints hope to get Alvin Kamara back in the lineup (he’s missed four games with a knee injury) this week, they also have backups like Tony Jones Jr., Dwayne Washington, and Ty Montgomery waiting in the wings, with Josh Adams on the practice squad. However, like Jordan, Ingram is fully vaccinated and may return to the team in time for Sunday’s road game with the New York Jets if he returns two negative test results in consecutive days.
