The Seahawks’ win over the 49ers on Sunday was a nice reprieve from what’s become a trying 2021 season. Coach Pete Carroll went so far as to call it a “precious moment.” Unfortunately, it’s time to come back down to reality, because Seattle lost one of its most-important players in that game.
According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, star strong safety Jamal Adams suffered a torn labrum plus more additional damage to his shoudler, so he will need to undergo season-ending surgery to repair it. He’s expected to make a full recovery and return for next season.

Adams came over to the Seahawks in a much-maligned trade with the Jets in July of 2020. Seattle sent two first-round picks to New York in exchange.
In his first season with the Seahawks, Adams proved a superb pass rusher, totaling 9.5 sacks and 14 quarterback hits. However, he was playing hurt much of the year and had to sit out four games. This season, Adams will also wind up playing 12 games, totaling no sacks but two interceptions, five passes defensed and four tackles for a loss.
There’s nobody on the roster or around the league who can replicate Adams’ unique skillset on the field. His absence may be a crippling issue for Ken Norton Jr’s defense.
