Roger McCreary had an incredible 2021 season for the Auburn Tigers.
It doesn’t matter if you want to score him based on the eye test, analytics, or stats, he was one of the best cornerbacks in college football this season.
His play earned him an invite to the Senior Bowl in Mobile as well as the chance to be a first-round pick for an NFL team in this year’s draft.
Matt Miller of The Draft Scout (paid subscription) release his “Third Quarter Mock Draft” that consisted of three full rounds of picks. He had McCreary getting picked by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Here’s what he said about the selection.
The Kansas City Chiefs have operated under the idea that a good pass rush, an offense led by Patrick Mahomes, and athletes at cornerback can get the job done. And it’s hard to argue with that. But general manager Brett Veach has to look at ways to upgrade his defensive backfield. Roger McCreary has that athletic, thicker build that Veach likes in defensive backs and just so happens to be a dangerous cover man too.
McCreary was the only Auburn Tigers taken in the first three rounds in Miller’s mock draft.
