The New Jersey Devils have their first third jersey in the NHL franchise’s history.
It’s a mostly black number with white stripes on it, but the centerpiece is the front: It proclaims it belongs to JERSEY.
But it’s also become something of a punchline, because it’s a jersey with JERSEY on the front (yes, I know they’re called sweaters by many, but whatever!).
Of course, there was thought put into this and there’s a bigger meaning than the jokes. ESPN’s story on the sweaters includes this: “The ‘JERSEY’ jersey is meant to be a piece of a larger marketing campaign that celebrates the team’s status as New Jersey’s only pro team with the name of the state in its name. The ‘Made in Jersey’ campaign started back in January, and the design will carry over to a number of other items.”
Still, here are some New Jersey new jersey “JERSEY” jokes.
