The ‘Iron Bowl’ is known as one of the great rivalries in all of college football. This Saturday the rivalry will be renewed for the 86th time in its intense history.
Auburn will enter the contest with a 6-5 record (3-4 in the SEC) while Alabama will roll into the matchup with a 10-1 overall record (6-1 in the SEC) and the SEC West already locked up.
As we near another matchup with the two in-state rivals, let’s take a closer look at the series history.
The Tide and Tigers first met all the way back in February of 1893 when Auburn defeated Alabama 32-22 in Birmingham. Auburn would go on to win seven of the first ten matchups between the two programs.
The rivalry was suspended for a span of 41 years due to player per diems and officiating. When the rivalry resumed in 1948, Alabama would hand Auburn a 55-0 beating. That remains the largest margin of victory in the series history.
In a series that has consisted of some of the most impactful moments in college football history, Alabama holds the overall series advantage at 47-37-1 over the Auburn Tigers.
This Saturday Alabama will travel to Auburn where the Tide has won just five games in fifteen tries.
You can catch the action at 2:30 p.m. CT on CBS.
