A historic soccer season came to an end for Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament’s round of 16 Sunday.
No. 6 Tennessee fell to No. 9 Michigan, 3-0, at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The Wolverines (18-3-3) scored a pair of goals in the first half. Michigan led 1-0 on a marker by Sarah Stratigakis in the 15th minute.
Michigan would extend its advantage against the Lady Vols (20-3-0) to 2-0 in the 26th minute on a tally by Meredith Haakenson.
The Wolverines’ Sammi Woods scored the lone goal of the second half when she tallied in the 66th minute.
The Lady Vols had their first 20-win campaign and set a single-season record with 13 shutouts in 2021.
The Wolverines outshot the Lady Vols, 22-12, in the match. Michigan had nine shots land on goal, while Tennessee finished with four shots on target.
Lady Vols’ goalkeeper Lindsey Romig recorded six saves in the game.
