Trevor Lawrence updates status of his ankle after Jags shocking win over Buffalo

Lawrence said a scan of his ankle revealed nothing concerning, and he was able to return to the game.

While Jacksonville’s 9-6 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday eventually became one of the franchise’s best moments in years, at one point in the second quarter, many Jaguars’ fans worst fears appeared to have been realized.

Left tackle Walker Little, who started in place of an injured Cam Robinson, was pushed into quarterback Trevor Lawrence by defensive end Jerry Hughes. Little’s leg caught Lawrence’s, and the rookie quarterback went down, injuring his ankle on the play. He had to be helped off into the locker room.

Lawrence was listed as questionable to return, but he eventually re-entered to start the second half. After the win, he updated the status of his ankle.

“Yeah, I’m feeling a little bit better,” Lawrence said after the game. “We scanned it, nothing concerning there. We’ll see how it feels tomorrow and the rest of the week. I’m sure it’s going to be sore, but we’ll see. I’m just going to get a bunch of treatment and try to get back healthy.”

It was a difficult day for Lawrence. He avoided turnovers, which likely proved to be the difference in this one, but struggled to find success through the air. He was just 15-of-26 for 118 yards and no touchdowns on the afternoon.

Still, Lawrence is crucial to this team’s success, both in the short and long term, and it should be a major relief to Jaguars fans to hear that he should be alright moving forward. After all, Lawrence said he feared the damage could be more severe.

“Yeah, no, I thought it was a lot worse, then after some time and we scanned it and it was good, and then put a little bit of weight on it, gradually I was feeling better and better,” he said. “Give it a little bit of time, it helped. But man, it was cool to see C.J. (Beathard) go in there and be ready and (he) just threw a couple great balls. That one to Ag (Jamal Agnew) was a freaking dime that he threw, so that was cool to see him just go in there and be ready.”

Jacksonville moves to 2-6 on the season with the win, and it will hope to have its quarterback back at 100% when it heads to Indianapolis next weekend for its first matchup of the season against the division-rival Colts.
