Sixers praise addition Georges Niang for contributions off the bench

The Philadelphia 76ers praise Georges Niang for the production he brings off the bench.

The Philadelphia 76ers were not very active on the free agency market, but they made a few shrewd moves around the edges to build a more solid team.

One of those moves was signing Georges Niang to a two-year deal. After scoring 14 points off the bench in Thursday’s road win over the Detroit Pistons, he is averaging 11.9 points while shooting 41.8% from deep through the first nine games. His contributions have been a big reason Philadelphia has started 7-2.

“He’s been great,” said Shake Milton. “Just his energy alone, his shooting, of course, and his defense also, he’s been a really well-rounded player, and he’s helping us tremendously.”

There was a stretch in the fourth quarter on Thursday when Niang really stepped up, knocking down a couple of 3s. That is the type of production and boost they have been looking for off their bench.

“I thought that little stretch with Georges, those two 3s were huge, too,” said Rivers. “That dude gives us so much grit, man. It’s just what this team needed.”

The Sixers will gladly take this type of performance from Niang as the season goes on. He has been such a huge help to this team’s bench unit and it has helped the team win despite missing so many key pieces.
