On-screen sign language interpreters are coming to ‘Forza Horizon 5’

Playground Games is working with sign language experts on this ambitious feature!

Forza Horizon 5  is expanding its accessibility options, bringing even on-screen sign language interpreters in a new update.

Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza series, is adding a staggering amount of features to Forza Horizon 5  that will help out gamers with disabilities. Mike Brown, creative director on the critically-acclaimed racing simulation, says working with the disability community was a big part of the game’s development.

“We want everyone in the world to be able to experience our game,” Brown said via Xbox Wire. “With more than an estimated 400 million gamers with disabilities across the globe, it is vital that all players be able to tailor their gameplay in a way that works best for them.”

One accessibility feature coming in a future patch is on-screen sign language interpreters for cutscenes. Playground Games even sought out ASL experts to bring this ambitious feature to Forza Horizon 5.

“The team is excited to share we are also working on American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) support for cinematics in Forza Horizon 5,” Brown said via Xbox Wire. “This feature will include a picture-in-picture display near the bottom of the screen of an ASL/BSL interpreter during the cinematics in the game.”

Check out a brief teaser of how on-screen language interpreters will work in Forza Horizon 5  for yourself below.

Playground Games sure is a trail-blazer, which is no surprise given how committed the team is to releasing incredible titles. We reviewed Forza Horizon 5  already and think it’s one of the best racing games ever made. So maybe give it a go, eh?
