#Saints QB Jameis Winston does, in fact, have a torn ACL, source said after the MRI. He is out for the season. There is also damage to the MCL.

This is really difficult. The New Orleans Saints’ worst fears were confirmed Monday when starting quarterback Jameis Winston was diagnosed with a torn ACL and damaged MCL in his injured left leg, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed. Earlier reporting suggested this would be the case, but now we know for sure that Winston will miss the remainder of the 2021 season.
It’s such a brutal break for Winston, who put in a ton of work to even get here. He spent his offseason training for the opportunity to lead a team again and he was just starting to hit his stride in recent weeks. Now he has to go back to square one and spent much of the next year recovering from a complicated knee injury.
We’ll have to hurry up and wait to see what the Saints do next at quarterback. Trevor Siemian managed the game well, for the most part, after subbing in for Winston against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But whether the Saints will choose to start him over Taysom Hill (once he clears concussion protocol) or rookie draft pick Ian Book remains to be seen. Check back for updates.
