The Miami Dolphins dropped their seventh game in a row on Sunday, as the Buffalo Bills defeated them 26-11.
Brian Flores’ team kept the game close in the first half with an impeccable performance from their defense. They were making tackles, breaking up passes, and flying to the ball on screens.
However, in perfect Miami fashion, both sides of the ball couldn’t be on at the same time. Tua Tagovailoa and the offense brought the ball twice into field goal range for Jason Sanders who made just one of the attempts.
The lone offensive bright spot early was DeVante Parker who amassed 68 yards on five receptions in the first half alone. He was making plays down the sideline and in the middle of the field, but he couldn’t help Miami put up more than three points through two quarters.
Part of that was due to a turnover in the last minute when the Dolphins were driving because the team couldn’t get lined up correctly, allowing the ball to bounce off of Mike Gesicki who was in motion behind the center.
That trend continued with one of the first plays in the second half as well. Gesicki got called for another illegal shift, as he was trying to get the receivers in the right spots. This problem is happening all too frequently.
Miami’s defense let up in the second half of this game, as they gave up 23 points. Cole Beasley went off against slot cornerback Nik Needham, beating him time and time again, allowing Josh Allen to move his team up and down the field all half.
The Dolphins’ offense only showed signs of life on one drive in the second half, when they completed a 40-yard pass to Mike Gesicki that set them up for their lone touchdown.
Nothing Miami did on offense was working, but the Dolphins’ defense did just enough to give fans hope that was ripped away down the stretch.
There will certainly be a lot of talk throughout the week regarding the jobs of Flores and Tagovailoa with the trade deadline on Wednesday.
