Bears rookie Khalil Herbert dominated top-ranked Bucs run defense

Khalil Herbert continues to dominate for the Bears, including against the best run defense in the NFL.

For all intents and purposes, the Bears offense was an utter disaster in Sunday’s blowout loss to the Bucs.

But the lone bright spot on offense was, once again, rookie running back Khalil Herbert, who recorded his first 100-yard rushing game of his young career in just his second start.

Herbert had 18 carries for 100 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. He also added five receptions for 33 yards. That was made all the more impressive given Herbert did it against the NFL’s best run defense, as the Bucs were giving up just 54 rushing yards per game.

“Just the O-line doing their thing,” Herbert said. “They do a great job up front making it easy for me; just those guys going out there and pounding.”

Herbert has certainly earned the RB2 spot once David Montgomery returns from his knee sprain, that could sideline him another couple of weeks.

Herbert’s yardage totals have increased in his three games with significant action where he totaled 75, 97 and 100 rushing yards against the Raiders, Packers and Bucs.

He’s only had two carries that have gone for a loss this season, both coming in Week 7.
