A pair of lightweights looking to get on their first winning streaks in years have agreed to fight in February.
[autotag]Alexander Hernandez [/autotag](13-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC) is set to take on [autotag]Renato Moicano[/autotag] (15-4-1 MMA, 7-4-1 UFC) at UFC 271. MMA Junkie confirmed the booking with a person with knowledge of the matchup after an initial report from AG Fight.
UFC 271 takes place Feb. 12 at a location yet to be announced. The main card will air on pay-per-view following prelims expected for ESPN and ESPN+.
Hernandez got back in the win column earlier this month with a first-round knockout of short-notice replacement Mike Breeden, who missed weight for the bout. In February, he dropped a decision to Thiago Moises. Hernandez has alternated wins and losses his past seven fights.
Moicano returned to the win column in June with a second-round submission of Jai Herbert. He was coming off a knockout loss to Rafael Fiziev at UFC 256 in December 2020. Earlier in 2020, he made his lightweight debut with a 44-second submission of Damir Hadzovic in Brazil in the last UFC event before the pandemic halted things.
With the addition, the UFC 271 lineup now includes:
- Douglas Silva de Andrade vs. Sergey Morozov
- AJ Dobson vs. Jacob Malkoun
- Kyler Phillips vs. Marcelo Rojo
- Alexander Hernandez vs. Renato Moicano
