Browns workout 4 special teams players on Tuesday

Three punters and one long snapper were in Cleveland for workouts today. Could the former Buckeye find a professional home back in Ohio?

The Cleveland Browns have a lot of areas of concern on their roster due to injuries. With a short week, the team is unlikely to fill any holes with players from outside of the organization. More likely, as we saw today with the signing of running back John Kelly to the main roster, the answers will have to come from within for Week 7.

That doesn’t mean Andrew Berry and his staff are not active. Instead, the team could be looking ahead to making moves during the 10 days they will have between Thursday Night Football and their Sunday matchup on Halloween with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Tuesday, the Browns worked out four special teams players including three punters:

  • Punter Dure Chrisman – Ohio State
  • Punter Lachlan Edwards – Sam Houston State
  • Punter Matt Wile – Michigan
  • Long snapper Rex Sunahara – West Virginia

Chrisman is known to many Browns fans from his time at Ohio State but has not punted in the NFL. Lachlan Edwards punted for four years for the New York Jets averaging 45.5 yards per punt while Wile had 16 games with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018 and six other games with a career 45.5 average.

Sunahara has not played in any NFL games. His workout could be related to Charley Hughlett getting attention from the medical staff in Week 6 or he could have just been needed to snap to the punters working out. Hughlett didn’t miss any time during Week 6.
