On Saturday the LSU Tigers have a huge SEC West matchup with the Ole Miss Rebels. The game features two coaches that know each other very well from their time at USC together.
On Monday Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin addressed the health of his quarterback.
“He’s not in very good shape,” Kiffin said Monday. “He hasn’t been for the last two days. You guys know how we are on injuries. Hopefully he will play but I don’t feel good about that right now.” –per Clarion Ledger
When asked about preparing for Corral, Ed Orgeron stated that they expect Matt [Corral] to play. “Knowing Matt and knowing coach Kiffin, he’s kind of throwing me a smokescreen.”
Corral was pretty banged up in the game against Tennessee but he was able to finish the game. It could be an instance of trying to rest the Rebels quarterback in preparation for the upcoming game. It will be interesting to see if Corral is able to go in the game on Saturday.
Kiffin’s quarterback has been in the Heisman Trophy discussion during the early going of the 2021 season. In six games Corral has thrown for 1,728 yards while completing 66.3% of his passes with 14 touchdowns. A season ago, he compiled 3,337 yards and 29 touchdowns.
If he isn’t able to play against LSU, that would be a major blow to the offense. Last year, both teams combined for 101 points and 1,151 yards of offense. LSU won 53-48 in the season finale.
