Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer was clearly battling an injury while trying to help guide an Irish comeback against Cincinnati that wasn’t meant to be. After the game Brian Kelly gave more details to Mayer’s situation and what he’s been playing through for roughly a month.

“He has a groin. He’s been battling through a groin strain. He’s a warrior and out there competing with a groin strain. It’s something he has been dealing with for the last month or so.”
“I kind of hurt it a little bit in camp and on and off,” Mayer said following the game, “I kind of tweaked it today.”
Mayer finished the game with eight receptions for 90 yards. He would go on to say he expects to be ready to go for Notre Dame’s trip to Virginia Tech next Saturday night.
