Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing the Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans Week 3 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-2) meet the AFC South rival Tennessee Titans (1-1) Sunday for a Week 3 showdown at Nissan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Colts vs. Titans odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

Indianapolis lost to the Los Angeles Rams 27-24 in Week 2 but covered as a 4-point home underdog. The difference in the game was the Colts’ inability to produce any points on two first-half red-zone possessions. QB Carson Wentz exited the game in the fourth quarter after spraining both of his ankles.

Tennessee rallied back from a 15-point first-half deficit and won 33-30 in overtime at the Seattle Seahawks last week as 6.5-point road underdogs. Derrick Henry had a monster afternoon, running for 182 yards on 35 carries with 3 TD and his 55 receiving yards were the second-highest for the Titans.

Both Colts head coach Frank Reich and Titans head coach Mike Vrabel were hired to their respective positions in 2018. Since then, Indianapolis is 4-2 overall and against the spread versus Tennessee and four of the six meetings have gone Over the total.

Prediction

Titans 27, Colts 19

Money line

PASS because as much as football Twitter likes to trash Wentz, the Colts turning to either backup QB Jacob Eason or practice squad QB Brett Hundley is a massive downgrade. Wentz hasn’t practiced yet this week.

That said, I’m not in love with the Titans (-240) outright given how poor they were defensively in 2020 and through Weeks 1 and 2. I’d rather save a betting bullet on the Under than lay more than two-to-one on Tennessee’s money line because of the injury woes for each team.

Against the spread

All the noise surrounding Indianapolis’s quarterback room makes me give a harder look at the TITANS -5.5 (-110). Reportedly, the Colts could split quarterbacking duties amongst Eason and Hundley.

There’s a saying in football: “If you have two starting quarterbacks then you have no starting quarterback.” Isn’t that even more true for backups? If Indianapolis was sold on either Eason or Hundley then that player would be getting first-team practice reps in preparation for a game Wentz is most likely to miss.

For as much grief as Tennesee’s has received for its defensive play through the first two weeks, Indianapolis hasn’t been much better. The Titans rank 30th in defensive DVOA by Football Outsiders and 28th in defensive EPA per play. While the Colts defense is 26th in DVOA and 25th in EPA per play.

BET the TITANS -5.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under

Heavy “LEAN” to the UNDER 47.5 (-110) only because we are getting to the party way late since this total opened up at 52.5 before it was steamed down 5 points by the market.

This is a “pros vs. joes” scenario in the market as roughly 75% of the cash is on the Under whereas a slight majority of the bets are on the Over, according to Pregame.com.

Not only is Indianapolis’s quarterback situation up in the air, but Tennessee has a couple of banged-up interior lineman, which could hurt the Titans’ success rate in rushing.

Tennessee is 26th neutral situation pace (seconds per play) and Indianapolis runs the slowest neutral situation pace. I don’t anticipate either team speeding up the tempo considering the Titans love to run Henry 30-plus times and the Colts might play a couple of backup quarterbacks.

BET a half unit on the UNDER 47.5 (-110)
