Tennessee volleyball suffered its first loss of the 2021 season Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Vols forced a fifth set before falling to No. 7 Pittsburgh, 25-23, 16-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-10, at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Lady Vols came up short despite seeing several players having a big match against the Panthers (5-0).
Morgahn Fingall was Tennessee’s leading attacker as she recorded 21 kills. Breana Runnels posted 18 kills and 10 digs for the Lady Vols, who struggled at the net in the first set as they committed 10 hitting errors.
Defensively, Madison Bryant led the Lady Vols with 14 digs, while Natalie Hayward added 11.
Hayward also totaled seven blocks and recorded 51 assists for Tennessee, which returns to action Friday. Tennessee travels to Morehead State for a match at 7 p.m. EDT.
