In a little over a week, the Steve Sarkisian era at Texas will officially kick off.
No. 21 Texas will host No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in their season opener on Sept. 4. The Longhorns will then travel to face an up and coming Arkansas squad the following week.
Needless to say, Texas will be tested right off the bat. Over the last few weeks, Sarkisian and his staff have been finalizing position battles all over the roster.
Outside of star running back Bijan Robinson and the solid depth behind him, there has seemingly been movement at every other position group this offseason. The most important, of course, is the quarterback competition between Hudson Card and Casey Thompson.
Thompson appeared to have the slight edge for the majority of camp, but Card has reportedly seen more of the first-team reps over the last week. In Texas’ second scrimmage on August 21, Card connected with wide receiver Joshua Moore for three touchdowns on the day.

The Longhorns will begin to prepare for Louisiana this week, and will even take part in a mock game this coming weekend. Sarkisian has done a great job of keeping certain position battles under wraps, and fans may not know much about the depth chart until the team takes the field on Sept. 4.
It’s worth keeping a close eye on the wide receiver room over the next week as numerous pass catchers are dealing with injuries at the moment.
