Drew Brees led the New Orleans Saints pregame huddle for 15 years, but it’s time for someone else to step up into that vocal leadership role. And that someone is Demario Davis — the former All-Pro linebacker who filled in for Brees in recent years when he’s been sidelined by injuries.
That’s just what Davis did before Monday’s preseason game with the Jacksonville Jaguars, shouting to set the tone and get his teammates ready for kickoff. But he wasn’t alone, with Jameis Winston leaning in for an ad-lib here or there.
Afterwards, Davis and Winston went out for the opening kickoff shoulder-to-shoulder with Cameron Jordan and Malcolm Jenkins. And they won the toss, electing to receive the opening kickoff in front of an excited home crowd. It’s on.
